Islamabad: Pakistan's army says 16 Taliban fighters and four soldiers have died in continuing fighting in the northwest as the country grapples with 1.5 million refugees fleeing the violence.
Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed said Tuesday the government had enough flour and other food for the displaced but needed donations of fans and energy biscuits.
Meanwhile, the army says its operation to clear the Swat Valley of Taliban militants is "making headway as planned."
A Tuesday statement says troops have fought gunfights in Matta and Kanju as well as battling militants in the Piochar area, the stronghold of Swat Taliban chief Maulana Fazlullah.
The statement said 16 militants and four soldiers were killed, while 16 more troops have been wounded.
