Islamabad: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) held a meeting to deliberate on joining Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) led Sindh government.

Sources said the meeting allowed its lawmakers in Sindh Assembly to become coalition partners of PPP, conditionally. It also gave a final go-ahead over the 60/40 formula.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan and MQM leaders Babar Ghauri, Rauf Siddiqui and Faroogh Naseem besides two MQM leaders from London attended the meeting. They also remained in contact with party Chief Altaf Hussain.

It was decided the assurance given by PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari to Altaf Hussain be fulfilled.

The sources further said the two parties will hold dialogues over the 60/40 formula next week after which MQM is likely to make final decision on joining Sindh government.

Meanwhile, former president and Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari said that his party had accepted election results with reservations and they will release a white paper on it very soon.

Asif Ali Zardari was talking to journalists following a meeting with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman at the latter’s residence on Sunday.

Zardari said everyone is aware how elections were held. He said PPP had accepted results with reservations, adding he helped Nawaz Sharif for the cause of democracy.

Zardari said PPP has opposed 22nd Constitutional amendment, adding his party had always supported the democracy. “We are determined to flourish democracy in the country”, he vowed.

Commenting on the meeting with Fazl, Asif Zardari said, “It is the time of Senate Elections and we also exchange views on it.”

The former president further said Maulana Fazl, PPP and Awami National Party (ANP) are on the same page over senate election issue and are also making efforts to bring Aftab Sherpao on the same platform.

Zardari also dismissed rumours about differences with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, asking what differences could there be between father and son. He said such rumours would be believable if he had three sons.

Maulana Fazl ruled out any major agenda of the meeting, saying: “We discussed prevailing political situation.”
