LAWASIA delegation meets Pakistan's Chaudhry
A delegation from the Australia-based LAWASIA, a body of law societies and bar associations in the Asia-Pacific region, met Pakistan's deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in Islamabad on Friday.
Islamabad: A delegation from the Australia-based LAWASIA, a body of law societies and bar associations in the Asia-Pacific region, met Pakistan's deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in Islamabad on Friday.
Sources said the meeting discussed issues of independence of judiciary and reinstatement of the judges deposed by President Pervez Musharraf under emergency rule last year.
The four-member delegation led by LAWASIA president Weng Kwai included his deputy Janet Neville, Parshant Kumar of the Bar Association of India and Christopher Leong of the Malaysian Bar Council.
The team, which is visiting the country on the invitation of the Pakistan Bar Council, held a meeting on Thursday in Lahore with president of the Pakistan Muslim League-N and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
