Former test cricketer Ijaz Ahmed was released on bail Tuesday pending his trial for issuing forged checks worth more than $130,000.

Lahore: Former test cricketer Ijaz Ahmed was released on bail Tuesday pending his trial for issuing forged checks worth more than $130,000.
"The judge has accepted our bail application," Ahmed's lawyer Kashif Javed told the reporters.
Ahmed, 40, has spent more than six weeks in jail while on remand after he was arrested on March 26 for allegedly writing checks to two property dealers that were dishonoured.
"I was innocent, that's all I can say," Ahmed told reporters.
The ex batsman's application for bail was twice rejected by lower courts last month before High Court judge Kazim Ali in the eastern city of Lahore accepted Ahmed's bail request Tuesday.
Ahmed played 60 tests and scored 3,315 runs for Pakistan before retiring in 2001. He was also a member of Pakistan's 1992 World Cup-winning limited-overs squad and scored 6,564 runs in 250 one-dayers.
