Islamabad: A close associate of late Benazir Bhutto will hoist the national flag tomorrow at the residence of restored Chief Justice Iftikar Mohammad Chaudhry, a lawyer leader said Friday.

Nahid Khan, who was political secretary to Benazir Bhutto, will hoist the flag along with her husband Senator Safdar Abbasi.

Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, former president of the Supreme Court bar, told reporters outside the residence of the chief justice that the ceremony was being held to fulfil the desire of Benazir Bhutto.

The chief justice will not attend the ceremony.

Ahasan's role during the lawyers' movement for restoration of deposed judges landed him in trouble with the leadership of the PPP. Despite being one of the senior most figures in PPP, his membership of the party's central executive committee was suspended for disciplinary reasons.

Nahid Khan and Senator Abbasi have been at odds with the PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari over handling of national issues and consequently sidelined.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani announced the restoration of the deposed judges on Monday, saying Justice Chaudhry would take charge at the Supreme Court after retirement of the current holder of the office Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar today.

Dogar was appointed chief justice by former military ruler Pervez Musharraf when on November 3, 2007 he suspended the constitution and imposed emergency rule.
