Islamabad: The Pakistani parliament on Tuesday set up a committee to formulate a consensus policy resolution after a series of secret sessions since early last week on the threat posed by terrorism and militancy, parliamentary sources said.
The 16-member committee had representation of all parties in parliament and was headed by Information Minister Sherry Rahman, the sources said.
During the in-chamber session, members from across the political divide gave their suggestions on how to tackle terrorism and extremism, as the army continues to battle militants in tribal areas along the Afghan border and in Swat valley.
The secret deliberations of the members of the National Assembly and the Senate would be resumed on Wednesday. Going by the remarks of US Deputy Secretary of State Tichard Boucher on Monday, Washington would like the ongoing army operations to continue till the local Taliban militants are completely neutralised.
