Ahsan confirms was offered senior government position
Lawyer currently considering accepting post
Islamabad: Prominent lawyer leader Aitzaz Ahsan has confirmed he has been offered a "senior position" in the government by President Asif Ali Zardari, according to newspaper reports yesterday.
Ahsan recently told reporters in Lahore he was considering the offer but did not disclose the promised position.
He, however, pointed out that accepting a position in the government of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to which he belongs would not be something wrong.
Ahsan met Zardari here last week in response to the president's invitation, which was seen as a bid to reconcile with the estranged senior PPP figure.
According to media reports last week, Ahsan was offered the post of Attorney General or Punjab province governor.
Meanwhile, the incumbent governor in Punjab, Salman Taseer, has publicly stated there was no move to replace him.
Ahsan, a former president of the Supreme Court Bar, earned displeasure of the PPP co-chairman over his forefront role in the lawyer movement that led to restoration of judges who had been deposed by former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.
