Accused leader to resist crackdown

The head of a Pakistani charity accused of being behind the Mumbai attacks vowed to resist a government crackdown, just hours before he was arrested on Friday.

Hafiz Saeed, the leader of Jamaat-ud-Dawa, denied United Nations accusations that his organisation was a front for the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist group.

"America, India and other nations are making these allegations so that they can create a general atmosphere in which they can accuse anybody of anything," he told The Daily Telegraph.

"But they must prove these allegations and submit evidence and so must the government. If they act against us then we will go to the courts."

Saeed said that his charity was "a well-established relief group."
