WHO chief in Geneva for emergency briefing on swine flu

Last updated:

Geneva: The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) has arrived in Geneva to oversee the agency's handling of the swine flu outbreak.

Margaret Chan has broken off a visit to Washington to return to WHO's headquarters in Switzerland on Saturday for the emergency.

WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl says at least 62 people have died from severe pneumonia in a flu outbreak in Mexico.

Hartl says some of those deaths have been confirmed as caused by a type of swine flu that has not previously been seen in pigs or humans.

WHO says the virus appears to be able to spread from human to human.
