Yangon: A rally by supporters of Myanmar democracy figure Aung San Suu Kyi was broken up by pro-junta forces on Thursday, a senior opposition member said.

An envoys of Swan-Arr-Shin, or ‘Masters of Force', gang members stormed the rally celebrating Suu Kyi's 63rd birthday.

Witnesses reported seeing the gang members attack the supporters.

Three of the crowd members were attained in the scuffle.

Police cordoned off roads leading to the rally where the National League of Democracy members had shouted slogans demanding freedom for Suu Kyi and more than 1,300 political prisoners believed to be behind bars in the former Burma.

NLD members were protesting for the release of Suu Kyi, whose detention was extended by the junta in May.

Dozens of people protested outside the Myanmar embassies in Bangkok and Manila, as well as in the Indian capital of New Delhi, where she went to school.
