Cape Town: South Africa's ruling party says President Thabo Mbeki will address the nation amid the political turmoil following his ouster.
Mbeki is due to make a televised address Sunday evening. He is also convening an emergency meeting of his Cabinet.
The African National Congress on Saturday sacked Mbeki, who lost a power struggle with ANC boss Jacob Zuma.
There is concern that if top government members follow him, there could be chaos in Africa's economic powerhouse.
Parliament now has to agree on an interim president, with speaker Baleka Mbete widely tipped to take over.
