Polish president says signing EU treaty 'pointless'

Warsaw: Poland will not sign the Lisbon Treaty because the Irish refusal makes it “pointless'', Polish President Lech Kaczynski was quotes as saying on Tuesday.
The European Reform treaty is meant to restructure the bloc's institutions after the accession of central and eastern European countries since 2004.
For it to be passed, all 27 member states must sign the agreement, but Ireland rejected it in a referendum last month.
In April, Poland's parliament sanctioned the treaty, which was due to come into effect last year.
Asked by the daily Dziennik if he would sign the treaty - the last step needed for full ratification in Poland -- Kaczynski said: "This is now pointless. But it is difficult to say how this whole thing will end."
"The bloc functioned, functions and will go on functioning. It's not perfect but such a complicated structure cannot be perfect," Kaczynski said.
