Harare: The secretary general of Zimbabwe's opposition party was arrested by police as he returned to the country on Thursday.
Movement of Democratic Change (MDC) officials said Tendai Biti was detained as he arrived at Harare airport.
"About 10 men in plain clothes handcuffed him as he came out of the plane and took him downstairs and drove him away," MDC said.
The arrest is the latest move against MDC by President Robert Mugabe's government ahead of the June 27 presidential run-off.
Biti left Zimbabwe to draw support from African nations after the March 29 elections.
