Beijing: A local government spokeswoman says that melamine-tainted milk products were pulled from convenience store shelves in southern China more than a year after 300,000 children were sickened in a massive milk safety scandal.
Guizhou government provincial spokeswoman Ling Hu said Monday that leftover boxes of frozen milk products and cartons of milk dating from early 2009 were taken off the shelves after health inspectors tested and found the products and found them positive for the toxic-chemical melamine.
Melamine, normally used in the manufacture of plastics and fertilizer, was added to watered-down milk to increase profits, causing one of the country's worst food safety crises involving the deaths of six children.
