Dhaka: Newly elected members of parliament took oath on Saturday after winning the December 29 elections.

The lawmakers who took the oath included 230 members from the Awami League, 27 from the Jatiya Party and five others from smaller parties.

Former prime minister Shaikh Hasina's alliance overwhelmingly won the December elections, which were held after nearly two years of emergency rule in the country.

Another 37 opposition members, including 32 from a four-party alliance led by former prime minister Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party, are scheduled to take oath on
Sunday.
