Protesters demanding a "free Tibet" came in minibuses, some of which were also seized. All the detained protesters will be freed later on Saturday, police said.
More than 20,000 Tibetans now live in exile in neighbouring Nepal. They have been protesting since the Chinese crackdown in Tibet in March.
