Dubai: Property developer Nakheel on Monday announced that it is donating Dh7 million to water sanitation programmes run by the Free the Children organisation.
Free the Children supporter and actor, Michael Douglas and wife Catherine Zeta Jones visited Dubai to receive the donation.
The fund will be spent in programmes addressing water sanitation and water access issues in third world countries, including Kenya and Sri Lanka.
According to United Nations health reports, water and sanitation are the largest issues affecting the world's population.
"Many of us take access to clean and safe water for granted. We are very pleased to be partnering with Free the Children to help make this a reality for people living in harsh environments in the third world," said Manal Shaheen, Nakheel's Director of Sales, Marketing and Customer Services.
