Man with grenade at Serbian president's headquarters
Officials say a man with a hand grenade is holding out in the Serbian president's headquarters, threatening to detonate the device if his court case isn't settled.
Belgrade: Officials say a man with a hand grenade is holding out in the Serbian president's headquarters, threatening to detonate the device if his court case isn't settled.
His office says President Boris Tadic entered the building after the standoff began, but it wouldn't say why, as SWAT teams are dealing with the situation.
Belgrade's independent B-92 radio is reporting that the man - identified by one official as a bankrupt businessman - is seated in a small lobby at a side entrance, surrounded by shielded policemen pointing guns at him. Negotiators are trying to persuade him to surrender.
Tadic spokeswoman Jasmina Stojanov says security people have taken one grenade away from the middle-aged man, but he's still holding a second grenade with its pin removed.
