Athens: The Athens Geodynamic Institute says an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.6 has struck in southern Greece.
Authorities say there are no reports of damage or injuries.
The institute said Friday's quake occurred at 3:53 am (0153GMT) with an epicenter 180 kilometers (112 miles) south of the Greek capital, Athens, in the sea southeast of the Peloponnese.
Earthquakes are common in Greece and neighboring Turkey, which are both riddled with fault lines.
Quakes rarely cause casualties in Greece, but in 1999, a 5.9-magnitude quake near Athens killed 143 people and left thousands homeless.
