Child matador banned from bullfighting shows in France
A 10-year-old child matador well known in Mexico has forced two French towns from banning all bullfighting shows featuring him, local authorities said on Saturday
Marseille: A 10-year-old child matador well known in Mexico has forced two French towns from banning all bullfighting shows featuring him, local authorities said on Saturday.
The mayor in the southeastern French town of Fontvielle scrapped all shows in which the boy, known as “Michelito'' was scheduled to perform, citing security issues.
The show was rescheduled in the city of Arles but authorities cancelled it there as well.
“Michelito'', whose real name is Michel Lagravere Peniche, was to take part in a becerrada, a fight that involves very young bulls that are not put to death.
French media reports said he was very disappointed over the bans. His French father was quoted as saying that Michelito has trained extensively and performs under strict safety conditions.
Media reports said the boy, who is part Mexican, has caused a sensation in Mexico due to his performances.
