At least nine people have died in Chechnya in an hour-long clash between police and unidentified gunmen.

Officials said four police officers, a serviceman, a civilian and three of the gunmen died.
The clash, which took place on Wednesday near the village of Alkazurovo, was one of the bloodiest outbursts in Chechnya in recent years.
