Dhaka: At least 11 people were killed and a young woman was critically injured as a passenger bus collided head-on with a mini-bus at Keraniganj area at the outskirts of the capital Dhaka, police said.

"Twelve people were on the mini-bus and 11 of them died instantly after it collided head-on with the passenger bus; the lone surviver is a young woman, who is being treated at a nearby hospital," a police official told Gulf News from the scene of the accident.

A journalist who visited the scene after the crash early on Wednesday said the passenger bus, which was coming from south-western Khulna, hit the mini-bus that was carrying a family to western Shariatpur.

The journalist said the dead included three young girls, aged between one and 12 and the lone surviver of the accident is a 15-year girl, who is struggling for life at a nearby hospital.
