New Delhi:A poor crowd on a weekend at anti-corruption group Team Anna’s indefinite fast on Saturday did not deter activist Anna Hazare to threaten a fast-unto-death from Sunday on Lokpal issue and talk about a political alternative in the 2014 elections.

Hazare also took on Congress and BJP parties saying the country’s future does not lie safe in their hands but said he himself will not fight the elections though he would campaign for those with clean background selected by people.

He also accused the government of cheating them repeatedly on the issue of Lokpal and that he is forced to fast again and again, which is “not a happy thing”.

“I will fast until we get Jan Lokpal,” Hazare, whose four-day ultimatum to government on a decision on his demands ends today, told a crowd of around 1,000 Saturday afternoon.

Talking about a political alternative for next Lok Sabha (Lower House of Indian parliament) elections, the 74-year-old activist said if “good people” do not enter Parliament, there will be no change in system and country will not get a strong Lokpal.

“For a vote, Rs15,000 ($271), Rs20,000, Rs30,000 are given (to voters). Those who get elected are making money and they don’t know where to keep this money. So they send it to foreign countries. Now its time to awaken the voters.

“Some are saying that we should give alternative, we should form a party. Millions are spend by a candidate for elections .. I will not fight elections. I will not put up a party,” he said.

However, Hazare said, he will tour the country urging people to select people to fight elections. He said the team will probe their background and then put their names of Internet seeking people’s opinion about them.

“We have been cheated by the government again and again, from the start till now. First by the (Lokpal bill) draft committee, then by the (parliament’s) standing committee and then in parliament,” Hazare said.

Hazare, along with his close aide Kumar Vishwas and Kiran Bedi, came to the venue around 10.30 a.m. Around 400 people had gathered by then.

The activist said that he was not worried about the dwindling number of supporters at his protests. “Crowds alone do not make a movement,” he said, adding that he was not bothered about how much crowd his fight was able to gather.

“The size of the crowd does not matter. I will be happy if even five people gather to support the movement. The protest is going on in 550 districts, so it is not correct to say that the crowd is huge or less,” Hazare said.

Slamming Team Anna, Union Minister V. Narayanasamy yesterrday said there was lack of unity among members of anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare’s team and dismissed the charge that government was trying to break it.

“There is already no unity among the members of Anna Hazare’s team. So, there is no need for us to break their unity, as someone alleged,” the Minister of state in the PMO told reporters at the airport here. Narayanasamy’s remarks come in the wake of charge by Hazare in the backdrop of his meeting with Law Minister Salman Khurshid that the government was conspiring to split his team.

Hitting out at team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal for his attack on members of Parliament, Narayanasamy said, “There are certain allegations against Kejriwal, a former bureaucrat. Their attempt to control Parliament is condemnable.”

Replying to a question, he said, “Our leader Rahul Gandhi finding a place in the Cabinet is a proud moment to every Congressman. However, this matter will be decided by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi.”

To a query on Chief Minister of south Indian Tamil Nadu state Jayalalitha seeking a meeting of the Cauvery Water Authority, he said since the case was in the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister cannot intervene.

But, he would surely take steps to ensure Tamil Nadu gets its share of Cauvery water (from Karnataka).
