Thiruvananthapuram: Senior Congress leader from Kerala Rajmohan Unnithan, who was detained along with a woman in Manjeri in suspicious circumstances by local people and handed over to police, has managed to get bail and has denied charges against him.

However, Unnithan, who is also a member of the All India Congress Committee, has been suspended from the party, pending enquiry into the alleged misdemeanour.

The decision was announced by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala. He said the move was undertaken with the AICC's knowledge.

Congress leader NP Moideen has been asked to inquire into the matter. Moideen will meet up with Unnithan and the local people in Mullambara near Manjeri where the incident took place, and submit his report within a week.

The KPCC will take a decision based on the findings of the report.

Unnithan, who secured bail in the afternoon on Monday, said he was framed by some ruling party supporters and their allies.
