Patna A three-year-old baby was raped by a youth in Bihar even as the protests seeking harsh punishment for rapists continue. She is among seven who have been raped in the past 48 hours.

Police said the girl, a resident of Ujjain-Lohiar hamlet in the East Champaran district, was playing outside her home when the accused lured her to his house on Monday and raped her. The accused fled his home soon after the victim began crying with pain.

Hearing her cries, the victim’s mother rushed to the accused’s house and found her baby in wretched condition.

“The police have registered the case and victim has been sent for medical examination,” the local deputy superintendent of police Alok Kumar told the media on Tuesday. The suspect has fled.

The incident comes close on the heels of the gang-rape of four Dalit girls by three youths in eastern Bihar’s Katihar district on Sunday.

Reports published in local media said the all the girls, aged between 12 and 14, were going to bring fodder for their cattle on Sunday evening when three youths travelling on an auto-rickshaw forcibly picked them up and took them to a secluded place where they were allegedly gang-raped.

“We have got information about their rape and are investigating the case,” the local Katihar district superintendent of police Kim said. She added that the suspects would be arrested soon.

Two other minor girls were raped in Sitamarhi district while a married woman has been raped in West Champaran. In these cases, however, the police have arrested the suspects.
