New Delhi: Three people, including a one-year-old child, died and eight others received burn injuries in a fire that broke out at residential building here early Saturday, a fire service official said.

The incident was reported at 3.10am from Sadh Nagar part-two in west Delhi’s Palam area.

“Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and it took till 4.20am before the fire was doused,” a fire official said. He added the reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.

All the victims were rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital, where three were declared dead on arrival and eight are being treated for burn injuries.

Among the injured are one Balraj Khokhar, 58, a fire brigade station officer who received hand injuries. The other injured were Indu, 27, Mamta, 35, Shitla, 55, Ritesh, 35, Vishnu, 44, Savita, 34 and Geeta, 19.

Two of the dead have been identified as Akshay (1) and Jagdish (32) while the third, in his early 20s, could not be identified.

The official said the three-storeyed building in which the fire broke out had six residential flats.
