Teenager's i-Pod craze drives him to murder
A 14-year-old boy killed a 9-year-old girl for an i-Pod in West Bengal's Birbhum district.
Kolkata: A 14-year-old boy killed a 9-year-old girl for an i-Pod in West Bengal's Birbhum district.
The incident apparently took place in Siuri town on Sunday evening and police found the girl's body last afternoon.
"Arka Das, 14, coveted his classmate Sagar Dolui's i-Pod; he led her sister Siuli, 9, into believing that he wanted to take her pictures and asked her to see him near the Tilpara Barrage 7km from Siuri and to get the i-Pod along. When the girl reached the spot on Sunday evening, Das snatched the i-Pod from her and pushed her off the barrage," said a senior official at Siuri police station.
Das confessed to pushing Siuli down the barrage, the officer said. The girl however landed on the bank of the Mayurakshi river and was still alive when Das first tried to choke her and then smashed her head with a stone before hiding her body in nearby bushes.
Das told Siuli's parents the two of them had taken a walk along the river but she had broken off on the way back home.
