Patna: A man who hacked five members of his family to death with an axe in a fit of rage early this week in Bihar has killed himself.

Angry kin, however, refused to receive his body as the police had to perform his last rites.

The 40-year-old man, Sunil Kumar Giri, ended his life by jumping before a speeding train on the Hajipur-Bachhwara railway section in Vaishali district late on Thursday night but the police recovered his body a day later. His mutilated body was beyond recognition but the kin finally identified the victim by his clothes.

Police said after committing the crime the accused had fled to the house of his maternal uncle located nearby and told him about the entire incident. But, as his maternal uncle and other villagers tried to hand him over to police, he fled the scene.

“Eventually, he [accused] threw himself before a speeding train and ended his life,” the local Vaishali district superintendent of police, Suresh Prasad Chaudhary, said on Sunday.

According to the SP, the train hit his head so badly that it became difficult to identify him.

The youth had, on Wednesday night, murdered his aged mother, sister-in-law and three little children at Bihjadi village of Vaishali district. Police believe he was mentally challenged. The male family members had gone to a local wedding when the incident occurred.
