Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) President K Chandrasekhar Rao and the Telugu Desam President N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday separately left for New Delhi amid speculation that an important development on the Telangana state issue was likely soon.

Before his departure, Chandrashekhar Rao told the reporters that he was expecting some important development during his stay in New Delhi. “I am hopeful that something will definitely come out before the end of this month”, he said adding that he will also meet the national leaders during his stay. He pointed out that talks were already on in New Delhi.

At the same time Rao said that the primary purpose of his going to Delhi was to attend a Lok Sabha session.

On the other hand Chandrababu Naidu left for national capital at a time when his Telugu Desam party was in grip of utter confusion over what stand he was going to take on the demand for separate Telangana state. While the TDP leaders from Telangana region were confident that Naidu will write a letter to the central government in support of separate state, the party leaders from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions were up in arms against the idea.

However the party sources said that Naidu’s agenda in New Delhi was essentially to discuss the idea of giving more seats to the backward classes in the elections and reservations for the BCs with the leaders of other political parties. Naidu is scheduled to meet former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, Samajwadi Party President Mulayam Singh Yadav, Janata Dal (U) leader Sharad Yadav and CPI leaders Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy and A B Bardhan.

Naidu was under tremendous pressure from both the sides in his party. While the Telangana leaders want Naidu to make an immediate move and write a letter to the centre, the leaders from Andhra and Rayalseema were threatening to resign if he wrote such a letter.

Many in the party say that if Naidu writes the letter a situation will re-emerge when almost all the TDP MLAs from Andhra and Rayalseema had submitted their resignation in protest against the statement of the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram favouring the formation of a Telangana state.

In another development the Telangana Joint Action Committee leaders met on Wednesday the Congress General Secretary in charge of AP affairs Ghulam Nabi Aazad in New Delhi. They urged Azad to make an early decision on the issue of a separate state. They threatened that if no decision was taken before September 30 they will go ahead with their programme of “Hyderabad March”.

These developments have taken place in the backdrop of three day long hunger strike by the state BJP President G Kishan Reddy in New Delhi to press Telangana demand. The hunger strike concluded on Wednesday.
