New Delhi: How long does it take to fly from Milan to New Delhi? Seven hours. But 259 passengers, planning to celebrate Christmas in the Indian capital, spent 60 hours to reach their destination, news reports said.
The flight was scheduled to take off on December 23 early morning. The start was delayed 21 hours due to bad weather in Milan. Despite that, Air India flight 0122 from the Italian city was expected to reach New Delhi on December 24. But dense fog prevented that and the flight was diverted to Mumbai.
A change of aircraft required additional formalities at the transfer desk and a couple of hours wait at the Mumbai airport. That didn’t help as the crew was unavailable.
Later when the flight took off, it was turned away again 200km from New Delhi airport due to poor visibility. So it was back to Mumbai for a 10-hour wait.
Finally, two and half days after they started their trip in Milan, the passengers landed in New Delhi on December 25. Yes, they missed the Christmas lunch.
