Mumbai : A stormy session is expected when the budget session of the Maharashtra legislature begins with the opposition set to nail the government on issues like law and order, inflation and load-shedding.

"The law and order situation in the state is in a shambles, there has been no headway in last month's Pune blast even as innocent people have been beaten by the police in Vasai," Eknath Khadse, leader of opposition in Legislative Assembly, said on Tuesday.

With several promises of the government unfulfilled, the Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party opposition has decided not to attend the customary tea party hosted by Chief Minister Ashok Chavan.

With the onset of an early summer, the shortage of power and drinking water has become a matter of concern across the state where drought has been declared in more than 20,000 villages. The opposition plans to demand a detailed report on the relief packages for the scarcity-hit areas.

The Sena-BJP leaders met at the official residence of Khadse to discuss their strategy during the session.

Issues like rising inflation and the ruling Congress-Nationalist Congress Party government's "apathy" towards law and order situation were discussed at the meeting, said Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe.
