Obeying one's wife is the way to a happy life, says judge
Comments made during marital discord lawsuit have stirred interest in India.
New Delhi: An irrepressible Justice Markandey Katju of the Supreme Court said on Friday that obeying one's wife was the way to a happy life.
He made a similar comment four days ago - "obey your wife and rule the world". Justice Katju said it again, this time following an equally jovial complaint by a senior counsel that the court's earlier observation on wives was creating problems for him.
"Your lordship made an observation about wives and all the radio and television channels are consistently showing it for the last two days or so," said senior counsel Nagendra Rai after finishing his business with the court.
"After the court observation, wives are creating problems and raising their demands. It is because of this that I have to appear before you and keep working even during summer vacation!" said Rai, a former judge of the Patna High Court.
To this, Justice Katju replied: "Yes, you must listen to your wife and obey her". He added: "That is the way to happy life".
