New Delhi: Angered over the second marriage of his estranged wife, a man assaulted her father and then shot him dead. He also injured other members of the family, police said Tuesday.

Vikram, 32, attacked his estranged wife Suman and her family members at their home in Jaitpur area in south Delhi late on Monday.

He was annoyed over the second marriage of his wife, who left him a few months after their marriage in 2009, said a police official.

Suman’s father Om Prakash died of his injuries while Suman, her mother, Batti Devi, 55, two brothers Jay Prakash, 35, Madan Mohan, 28 and a sister-in-law were injured in the attack. Vikram also received injuries when he was overpowered and attacked by local residents.

All the injured were taken to the hospital where Suman, her mother and sister-in-law were discharged after treatment while Jayaprakash, Madan Mohan and Vikram are still being treated.

“Vikram, who lived in the same area, was accompanied by his younger brother and two of his friends. They were armed with pistols and knives,” said a police officer.

The hunt is on to arrest the other three.

“Suman and Vikram got separated in 2010, after the decision from the village’s panchayat. Few months after she got married to another person. Vikram was not happy with her second marriage,” the officer said.
