Man avails himself of 102% discount at five-star hotel

Chandigarh: A 102-year-old man walked out of a five-star hotel here with a discount matching his age after having a sumptuous lunch with his family.
The centenarian Jamna Das availed himself of a special discount on Monday offered by the Taj hotel's specialty Indian restaurant called Dera.
The hotel had offered to give discounts to senior citizens matching their age on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary.
The staff had expected people in the age group of 75-80 years to turn up, but were pleasantly surprised when the 102-year-old customer walked in. Since the hotel could not offer money to Das for the extra two per cent discount over the 100 per cent discount limit, they made up for it by presenting him with a gift after he completed his meal. Hotel officials said the discount for senior citizens at the restaurant would continue on all Sundays for the next few weeks.
"We want to make senior citizens feel wanted and hence decided to do something special for them," a senior hotel official told IANS.
Several elderly couples have already taken advantage of the hotel's offer.
