Kolkata: Hours after federal minister Arun Jaitley chastised the Trinamool Congress (TMC), the ruling party in West Bengal, calling it anti-national, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a fresh attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), calling the arrest of her party leaders in the Saradha scam — which has seen people duped of their savings — a conspiracy.

“There is conspiracy going on against us. Let them (BJP) arrest me. I am standing along with my people on the streets. I will show them (BJP) that no amount of conspiracy can thwart us from carrying on development work in the state. By conspiring against us, they cannot win the hearts of the people,” Banerjee said, while addressing a rally here in Kolkata.

The TMC launched an all-out offensive on the BJP by refusing to participate in the all-party-meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday before the winter session of parliament and has decided to oppose the insurance bills in the Rajya Sabha (upper house of parliament) where the BJP does not enjoy a majority.

“This is all being done for a large cause, where BJP is trying to sell the country to foreign players. Just because they do not have the numbers in Rajya Sabha, they are arresting our leaders, so that our numbers get reduced and the bill gets passed and industrialists close to him (Modi) can benefit,” said Banerjee.

She also accused prime minister of taking hired people to his shows in Madison Garden Square and again in Australia to show the world his popularity, adding he was in reality a “danga guru” (one who incites riots.)

“You cannot run a country by taking selfies. They had promised to get back the black money in sixty days. Where is it? The government is now over six months old,” Mamata said.

TMC member of parliament Derek O’Brien said the Burdwan blast was “stage-managed” and was “part of the BJP’s devious master plan, concerted strategy used even during PM’s poll campaign in Bihar”.

He also criticised National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, who visited West Bengal in the aftermath of the blasts and blamed the state government for being unaware of the mushrooming terror hubs, is a “known Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) sympathiser,” he said. “The game plan has been hatched in the RSS headquarters. All the facts will be made public in 48 hours,” O’Brien added.

The state BJP has dismissed Banerjee’s attacks as a mark of desperation. “She had gone to Delhi with great hopes that the alliance with the Congress party would be formed that day itself. But she did not get on the dais, there was no separate meeting, no one talked to her. Humiliated, she left at half time and met the BJP leaders. But our party will not support the corrupt or try to save them,” Rahul Sinha state BJP chief said.

Meanwhile, filmmaker Aneisha Sharma, the wife of Sadananda Gogoi accused in the Saradha chit fund scam, has expressed desire to make a film on the fraud company.

Sharma, whose film ‘A Dream Never Dies’ opened the non-feature film section of Indian Panorama at the ongoing International Film Festival of India in Goa, said that her film on Saradha chit fund scam will chronicle how soft targets like her husband are allegedly trapped.

“There is a need to focus on the story through a movie so that the people know the actual thing. You can see such kind of stories in fiction feature films, but here it has happened in real. Here it can be seen how a soft target can be trapped,” the filmmaker said.
