Thiruvananthapuram: The two accused in the murder of an employee at the Congress office in Nilambur in north Kerala appear to have been influenced by a recent Malayalam movie which gives some insight into destruction of evidence after committing a murder.

Reports say that the two murder accused have confessed to the police that they took some tips from the movie, Drishyam (visual/scene). In the movie, after murdering a youth, the perpetrators tie up the body in a gunny bag and bury it.

In the Nilambur incident, the woman’s body was also packed in a gunny bag and dumped in the panchayat pond at Unnikulam near Chulliyode. A stone was tied to the sack to ensure that the body did not surface.

In the movie, the SIM card of the murdered youth is discarded in a truck that plies inter-state. In the Nilambur incident, the alleged perpetrators, Biju Nair and Shamsuddin, disassembled the woman’s mobile phone and abandoned the SIM card on the railway track at Angadipuram, some 40 kilometres from Nilambur.

Police recovered the deceased Radha’s gold chain, bangles and earrings from Shamsuddin’s house. Police have also recovered her sandals and umbrella.

Message

Jail director general of police, T.P. Sen Kumar, had recently spoken about how the movie, Drishyam, gave details of covering up a crime, adding it “did not give the right message”.

Radha’s brother, Bhaskaran, said he suspected more people to have conspired in the murder. He said there had been two previous attempts to kill Radha by running a vehicle over her. Bhaskaran sought a high-level probe to book all those who were involved in his sister’s killing.
