Thiruvananthapuram: Congress MLA and former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president K. Muraleedharan reiterated his demand to order a fresh probe into the false espionage case that goes by the name ‘ISRO spy case’, which caused a loss of reputation and political stature for his father, the late K. Karunakaran.
The former KPCC president wants a probe into the role of three former officials in the investigation of the case which falsely implicated innocent people.
Muraleedharan has asked Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to order a probe into the role of the officers, so that his father’s name would be cleared.
Recently, the court had ordered the state government to pay Rs 1 million to compensate former Indian Space Research Organisation scientist Nambi Narayanan, who was one of those who were falsely implicated in the case.
Chandy has handed over Muraleedharan’s request to state Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan.
Muraleedharan fired a fresh salvo Thursday when he said he could not understand the silence of KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala on the matter.
Chennithala, however, said he had gathered that the chief minister had forwarded Muraleedharan’s request to the home minister for action.
Muraleedharan’s outburst is seen by political observers as a hint that niche groups within the Congress are becoming active again.
