Thiruvananthapuram: On Monday, Kerala minister for forests and environment KB Ganesh Kumar poured out venom on his wife Yamini Thankachy alleging that it was she who had been physically abusing him all these years after she accused him of battering her.

To support his case, there were visuals of his bruised face and as if to convince media persons about how he was the real victim, the minister said some of his private staff were also witnesses to Thankachy’s assaults on him.

Thankachy countered all that, and then did something more serious – she issued a formal complaints to the chief minister Oommen Chandy and the police.

The chief minister has forwarded the petition to the police authorities and the Museum Police station where Thankachy filed her petition will also follow up on the complaint of domestic violence against her. That could prove tough for the film star-politician Kumar to handle, given the stringent provisions in the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act.

Kumar, too, has filed a police complaint and the crime branch is expected to investigate and take action on petitions by him as well as the one by his wife. Police have already provided protection to Thankachy, posting policemen at her house in the city, after Thankachy requested for the same fearing attacks by those supporting her husband.

To add to Kumar’s woes, his father and former minister R Balakrishna Pillai has also not taken kindly to his moves. Pillai said he had expected Kumar to resign his MLA post as well, on moral grounds. That leaves Kumar fighting his wife and father at the same time, whilst he also battles to keep his political ambitions alive.
