Lucknow: Just as the marriage ceremony was about to begin, a groom in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district made a dowry demand. What he got instead was a garland of shoes and a dog collar from the bride's outraged family.
They blackened his face and paraded him around the village.
"The incident took place on Thursday night in Bhojpur village in Saharanpur district, where Zakir, 25, had to face the wrath of the girl's family and her relatives," police inspector Manvendra Singh said.
As the marriage was about to begin, Zakir demanded Rs50,000 (Dh3,550) from the girl's family.
"Even after repeated pleas by the girl's family members, Zakir remained adamant on his demand. Enraged, the girl's relatives taught Zakir a lesson," Singh added.
