Patna: Two little girls studying in Standard One at a government school in Bihar allegedly killed their friend over the trivial issue of sitting in class.

The incident took place at a primary government school at Sriram Tola village in east Champaran district on Tuesday, but was reported to the police on Thursday.

Police said the two girls got into a serious brawl with their eight-year-old classmate, identified as Sita Kumari, over the issue of sitting on a jute carpet in the classroom.

The girls allegedly pushed their friend to the floor, sat over her chest and beat her up mercilessly with fists and feet.

After being told of the incident, her parents ran to the school and rushed the victim to a local hospital, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

Police said the girls also severely assaulted the deceased’s sister Shanti Kumari, who is enrolled in class four at the same school, after she tried to save her sibling.

Doctors say her condition is critical although they are trying hard to save her.

The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

“We are investigating the case,” the local deputy superintendent of police Umeshwar Chaudhary told the media on Thursday.
