Patna: A banker from Bihar who hit the jackpot of Rs10 million (Dh677,685) in the popular TV show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC) hosted by Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has opened a formal coaching centre here to help aspirants answer questions and win as much cash.

Anil Kumar Sinha who won the prize money in season 5 of KBC is a busy man these days, left with just little time for his family as he is always mobbed by a crowd of aspirants wanting to get tips about how to make it to KBC and win maximum cash.

“In fact, I had started an institute to groom candidates for government jobs but people began visiting me, more interested to know how to make it to the hot seat. Their demand for KBC coaching just stunned me...Thus the exclusive KBC Coaching Institute was born,” Sinha said on Wednesday.

Ever since he started the coaching institute, Sinha added, he has been flooded with emails and phone calls from aspirants wanting to know tips on making it to KBC. Sinha has also written books on KBC to help aspirants. While one of his books ‘How to become a millionaire’ has already hit the stands, his second book ‘ABC of KBC’ is in an advanced stage.

“Apart from teaching the basics of general awareness, I try to help the aspirants for each step of the game show, right from the audition to the fastest finger-first round,” Sinha told the media, adding that earning money was not his motive. He said he had been sharing his experience at the game show with the aspirants as well as methods of preparations to ensure more people qualify for the hot seat and win money.

Five students qualify

So far, around 250 aspirants from various parts of India have approached Sinha for help — of them, five have qualified for the latest audition in Mumbai.

“I want more and more people from Bihar to make it to the hot seat,” Sinha, who kept trying to qualify to the hot seat ever since KBC started in 2000, said.

KBC, based on the UK game show ‘Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?’, was first aired in 2000 and hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, his first appearance in Indian television.

Initially, KBC offered contestants the chance to win up to Rs10 million only, but doubled this in 2001 to Rs20 million, further adjusted from the fourth season to include a jackpot of Rs50 million. The show has been well received from the very first season in the country.
