Agartala: A 28-year-old man has allegedly confessed to the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in Tripura.
Police say the girl went missing on Thursday night at a religious function in Karbook and that her body was found in a septic tank on Saturday morning after the arrest of the suspect.
Police claim Sanjit Saha confessed that he raped the girl before strangling her to death and dumping her body.
The incident triggered massive protests in the area, with scores of people gathering at the victim’s house and at Natun Bazar police station.
Senior officers and civil officials rushed to the area, 125 kilometres south of the state capital, to control the situation.
