Thiruvananthapuram: The shocking series of sexual abuse of children in their own families has come back to haunt the state, with another report of a six-year-old girl in Kuruppampady in Ernakulam district being abused by her father. In this case, reports indicate that the girl was abused after being forced to drink alcohol.

Police have filed a case against the man, following a complaint by the girl’s mother. The man is absconding. The incident came to light when the girl was taken to a psychiatrist after she showed some behavioural problems.

Reports in local media say the girl has disclosed that some of her father’s friends had also abused her. The girl’s parents had been separated and the abuse happened after the mother had recently requested her husband to take care of the girl.

The latest instance of child abuse within the family comes within days of two similar incidents reported from Kottayam and Kannur districts. In Kannur, a teenager was reportedly abused by her father, brother and uncle, while in Kottayam, a man was held for abusing his two teenage daughters. The second incident created another controversy when reports surfaced that the family was socially ostracised after the mother of the girls reported the matter to the police.
