New Delhi: The Delhi High Court yesterday accepted imprisoned lawmaker Kanimozhi's petition for advance hearing on her bail plea.

Justice V.K. Shali announced that he would hear bail pleas of Kanimozhi and five others in the 2G spectrum allocation scandal case today.

The court had earlier listed hearing on the bail petitions for December 1. However, on Wednesday, the Supreme Court ruling granting bails to five corporate executives in the same case prompted Kanimozhi and others to approach the court for an early hearing of their petitions.

Citing the Supreme Court ruling, Kanimozhi said in her plea that keeping her in custody for some more days would be a violation of her fundamental rights and that she should be granted bail as even the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) was not opposing her plea.

Justice Shali directed the CBI and the defence counsel to submit their statement on the charges against all the accused and evidence seized against them when the court takes up their bail applications for hearing on Friday.

The CBI had in all arrested 14 persons in the 2G spectrum allocation case including former telecom minister A. Raja and Kanimozhi.

With five corporate executives getting bail, nine persons are still behind bars.

Hearing

Besides Kanimozhi, who is the daughter of former Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi, others whose bail applications would come up in the court today include former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura, Kalaignar TV chief Sharad Kumar, Cineyug Films' Karim Morani, Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd directors Asif Balwa and Rajiv B. Agarwal.

Kanimozhi has been lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail since May 20. She has been accused of accepting Rs 2.14 billon as bribe.
