Patna: Attackers chopped off the left hand of a man in Bihar and then walked away with his dismembered arm over the victim’s alleged love affair with a local girl.

The youth has been admitted to a government hospital for treatment. This is the second time in the past fortnight that criminals have chopped off the limbs of villagers.

The incident took place at Mohanpur village in Samastipur district, some 85km north of Patna, on Friday night and the police are yet to nab the criminals or recover the dismembered limb.

Police said the victim, Santosh Kumar Giri, 25, was returning to his village after attending a feast when the armed attackers chopped off his hand with a sharp-edged weapon and then escaped with his dismembered arm as the victim lay senseless, writhing in pain. Hearing his wails, some local villagers rushed to the spot and informed his family members about the incident. The victim has been admitted to the Patna Medical College and Hospital where his condition is stated to be critical owing to profuse bleeding.

“We are still investigating the case,” Vidyapatinagar police station in-charge Sunil Kumar told Gulf News on Sunday, adding the police were yet to recover the dismembered arm although a massive search operation continues.

The victim’s alleged love affair with a local girl, though, is stated to be the prime reason behind the incident. According to the local villagers, the victim had three wives but in due course, he lost all of them, leaving him virtually alone. Caught in such circumstances, he had come closer to a local girl which eventually cost him dear, local villagers say.

Last week, attackers had chopped off all the 10 fingers of a youth before pouring acid in his eyes in the same Samastipur district over a trivial issue. The incident has left the victim totally crippled, virtually turning him into a bundle of flesh as he has subsequently lost vision in both of his eyes.
