New Delhi: Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni married ahead of schedule due to astrological considerations, according to reports on Tuesday.
Singh married childhood friend Sakshi Singh Rawat at a farm house near Dehradun on Sunday. The affair was initially planned for 2011.
Dhoni's astrologer reportedly told him that this was an auspicious year for him. His family and the family of Sakshi also thought now was the best time to formalise the couple's relationship.
Sakshi's family were reportedly bothered by rumours of Dhoni's alleged affairs with Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone. Dhoni has not commented on the issue.
Dhoni and Sakshi had studied together and were seeing each other for three years. The relationship was kept secret from the media.
The wedding, for which only a few close family members and friends were invited, was a simple affair.
Dhoni wore a black "sherwani" while Sakshi was dressed up in "churidar-pyjama".
Tight security was thrown around the resort. The media was kept out of bounds and reporters had to station themselves at a 1-kilometre distance from the resort's main gate.
Even selected guests who attended the wedding ceremony were seen being brought into the resort in four vehicles kept for the purpose.
