Patna: The police today arrested the suspected rapist of the five-year-old Delhi girl from his in-law’s house in Bihar, a day after the incident triggered outrage on the street and the Prime Minister Office expressed deep shock over what had happened in the national capital. This is the second time in four months that Delhi rape accused happened to a Bihari youth.

The suspected prime accused, identified as 25-year-old Manoj Sah was arrested from his in-law’s village at Chiknauta in northern Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district on early Saturday morning in a joint operation by the Delhi and Bihar police. The accused was still sleeping in his in-law’s house when the police raided the house at around 2.30am and arrested him. Police said he was traced after tracking his mobile phone location.

Soon after his arrest, the accused was produced in a local court after which he was handed over to the Delhi police on three-day transit remand. Later, the police took him to Delhi. Police sources said the accused had confessed his involvement in the crime.

“The accused was arrested in a joint operation by the Delhi and local police,” Bihar’s director general of police Abhayanand told the media today adding the arrested man had been carried to Delhi after his production in a local court on Saturday morning.

Police said the accused who also is a resident of Bhartua village in the same Muzaffarpur district had reached his in-law’s house by train soon after the incident triggered public outrage in the nation capital. The accused, who works as a labourer in Delhi, got married recently.

The accused had allegedly raped five-year-old girl at his rented accommodation in east Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar where the girl and her family also stayed. The girl, who was reported missing from April 15 evening, was rescued on April 17 morning from the ground floor of the building.

The victim is battling for life in AIIMS hospital in the national capital after she contracted infection from foreign objects inserted into her body.

This is the second time in four months that the incident has shamed Bihar given the fact that the accused happened to come from this state. Earlier in December last, the sixth accused in the rape-cum-murder of a Delhi medical student had been arrested from Aurangabad district of Bihar.
