Dozens killed in Afghanistan airstrikes
An Afghan official says clashes and airstrikes have killed dozens of militants in eastern Afghanistan near the border with Pakistan.
Kabul: An Afghan official says clashes and airstrikes have killed dozens of militants in eastern Afghanistan near the border with Pakistan.
Arsallah Jamal, governor of Khost province, says militants attacked Spera district centre in Khost province early on Sunday. Afghan forces fought back and called for support from American troops.
Jamal says that some 50 militants and two police were killed. The rest of the militants fled toward Pakistan.
Separately, the US-led coalition says several militants were killed and four were detained during an operation in neighbouring Paktia province on Saturday.
Afghan officials have blamed Pakistan for not doing enough to crack down on militant hideouts on its side of the border.
