Dubai: Imagine being able to order your groceries and have them delivered, while enjoying an evening at the Dubai Water Canal, instead of visiting a crowded supermarket. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will soon make this possible through their latest initiative — Smart Village.

Through this initiative, RTA plans to install 50 smart kiosks in various locations across the emirate.

50 Smart Village screens to be installed across Dubai soon

The Smart Village kiosks have touch screens that aim to provide smart services and information to Dubai residents and visitors.

According to an RTA official: “Through these touch screens, people will be able to access information on things like important events in Dubai, how to reach main tourist attractions in the city, latest weather updates, news updates, public transport timetables, roads, prayer times across the city and smart services like virtual shopping.”

Currently, the kiosk has five applications — the S’hail app by RTA, which helps you plan a journey in Dubai using public and private transport services; InstaShop, a smart shopping service which lets you order groceries and household items and delivers them to a location of your choice; Prayer Times; News; and Weather.

Gulf News’ mobile application is the first news app to be a part of these kiosks. The RTA plans to add more such apps in the future.

The official added: “This project is under the Traffic and Roads Agency of RTA.”

The smart service was announced by the RTA during Gitex Technology Week which concluded at Dubai World Trade Centre on Thursday.

The RTA is contributing to Dubai’s goal of becoming the smartest city through the use of smart services to benefit the public.
