Dubai: We are only one week away from the Gulf News Overnighter Fun Drive, taking place on January 15-16.
The event which is supported by Al Futtaim Motors — Toyota is held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region
The drive will start at Al Fathiya on the Hameem Road and ends at the camp located at the foot of the spectacular Moreeb Dune, in the Liwa region.
The Gulf News Fun Drive is in its 30th year and this one is the 35th in the series.
The response for the event was so overwhelming that entries closed on the very first day. Since then, Gulf News has received hundreds of requests for the ‘waiting list’.
This year’s route is brand new and very challenging in parts as is to be expected of a drive in the Liwa region. It promises to be a true test of desert driving skills as the route traverses tricky and tough sand dunes almost throughout the entire drive.
A list of participants appears in the paper today. Information Packs which include the Fun Drive number and the manual will be available for collection as follows.
Gulf News Dubai Office on January 6, 7 and 8 between 9am and 7pm; Gulf News Abu Dhabi Office on January 6 and 7 between 9am and 4pm and Gulf News Al Ain office on January 6 only between 9 and 11am.
Additional passengers can be added between January 6 and 8 from 9am to 7pm only. Cancellation of passengers (not vehicles) will also be accepted during this time. After this no passenger will be added and no refund will be made for cancellation.
Participants must submit Disclaimers with original signatures of all passengers. Information packs will not be issued unless the Disclaimer has been handed in.
Al Futtaim Motors — Toyota are the main sponsors of the event, just as they have been over the last 28 years. Checkpoints are sponsored by Toyota, BF Goodrich, Dubai Duty Free, Orient Travel, Pringles and TOTAL. The Fun Drive numbers are sponsored by Amity University. Support Sponsors include Byrne, De Longhi, Emirates Water, Liwa Hotel, Mentos, Ritz by Danube, Torc and Wildcraft. Catering for the event is by Jebel Ali Resorts & Hotels and Mafraq Hotel. Recovery is by IATC. Entertainment is by Ciel Marketing & Events.
